Our Background
Who We Are: The Faces and Values Behind Our Team
At Oak and Sands Counselling Services, our greatest strength is our people. Our team consists of regulated professionals, including Registered Psychotherapists (RP), Registered Social Workers (RSW), and clinicians with Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) degrees. Each therapist brings a unique combination of training, lived experience, and personality, ensuring a blend of evidence-based care and genuine human connection.
We don’t believe in sterile, one-size-fits-all approaches. Instead, we create a 'coffee with a friend' atmosphere in every session—whether you visit our Alliston office near Parsons Road or connect virtually from Newmarket, York Region, or elsewhere in Ontario. We’re parents, partners, and real people who understand the messy realities of life, from the mental load of parenting to the 'Jenga feeling' of being stretched thin.
Therapy works best when you feel safe, seen, and understood. That’s why you’ll notice personality in our bios: whether it’s a love for hockey, gnomes, Kraft Dinner, or singing in the car, our quirks make us approachable. We’re here to walk alongside you as guides and supporters, not just clinicians. Your journey is unique, and so is every member of our team—ready to help you grow from acorn to oak.

YEARS IN BUSINESS
Our Team
What Sets Our Team Apart in Alliston and Beyond
Our team’s collective expertise sets Oak and Sands apart in Simcoe County, Newmarket, and the wider Ontario region. Every therapist is committed to ongoing professional development, regulatory transparency, and staying current with best practices in trauma-informed care, EMDR, CBT, DBT, and more.
But credentials are only half the story. Our team prioritizes 'fit'—we offer a free 15-minute consult to make sure you and your therapist connect before you commit. This focus on relationship-building is woven into everything we do, from our informal, welcoming session style to our flexible approach that lets you knit, doodle, or even stretch out on the floor as you talk.
Diversity in lived experience is a core strength of our team. Some of us know firsthand the challenges of parenting a medically complex child, while others have navigated career changes or cultural transitions. We understand the local rhythms of Alliston life as well as the unique stresses facing Newmarket professionals or York Region families. No matter your background, you’ll find a member of our team who 'gets it.' Our clinicians are united by a human-first philosophy: empowering clients to eventually outgrow the need for therapy, while always offering a soft place to land when life gets tough.
